Energy Drink Verdict

Well, its taken me a little longer then I had anticipated or wanted to do this review. I was a bit thrown off with the weekend in between. Lesson learned, don’t do it over a weekend, unless the product demands it. But onto the important part of this post.

I’ve tested 5 different energy drinks, NOS, Monster, AMP, Full Throttle and Rock Star. Overall I am satisfied but of course there can only be one champ … or a few … or a lineup. How ever you want to look at it. Overall I have two favourites that I will be switching to from my regular Red Bull.

First, Full Throttle. I was very surprised that it tasted as good as it did and performed as well as it did. I didn’t bloat or feel drained. A combination of moving around and food most likely assisted with that. If I ever need to pick up another energy drink, Full Throttle will be the first on in my mind to go for.

Second was Monster. Not too surprised here. Many people enjoy this energy drink and drink it fairly often. Not to mention that like Starbucks was at one point, Monster has become a bit of a fad. I have to hand it to the maker though, they did a very good job with the product, its marketing and took it as far as the design of the can itself.

So there we have it … my first review. As time goes by these will get better (I hope). For now however, I’m going to have to think of something new to munch on and report.

*DISCLAIMER: In no way have I been compensated by any of the companies mentioned in this review. Also, each individuals taste buds and bodies differ, their for results may vary.*

NOS

Now, just to clarify, this isn’t the same NOS that accelerates your car from 0-60 in seconds, no this is the energy drink. (NOS in a car however is orgasmic) I’ve had this energy drink before, but I’ve never conducted a side by side comparison to other products. I actually enjoyed this drink Saturday afternoon as I required a bit of a boost to get me through the day. Taste wise, I have to admit is not the best. After having some of the other drinks, I’m surprised that I survived on these during my finals back in 2008. The drink does bloat you a bit. And leaves a faint taste in your mouth. Not a bad one in my opinion, but I don’t like to have lingering tastes left behind after enjoying something.

Nutritional value, 2000mg of taurine, 260mg of caffeine, N/Amg guarana, 220 Calories, 54g of Carbohydrate. You can take up to 2 cans per day.

Overall it like my Red Bull is a decent compromise. However, lining it up against some of the other energy drinks I enjoyed throughout the week, I have to admit it didn’t rank very high. It has are really cool bottle design if you go with the larger version, but other then that, its still just another drink.

AMP Energy

Well its settled, I have a thing for citrus flavoured energy drinks. Also happens to be the original flavour for most of the energy drinks out there it seems. But what can I say … so far most have been good. AMP is another big brand name that I have come to know through sporting events and or motorcross. Its sleek design is unique and helps extinguish itself among the rest. It most definitely helped me to kick start my day. On that note however, I did notice that I did have a bit of a weird tingly feeling in my head. Now this could be due to the drink or the weather. I get affected during major weather changes. So some may experience a tingle or I’m just really out of it today. But I do seem to have a lot of energy. Not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that it’s Friday as well, but there you go … it works … the drink that is lol.

Nutritional value, 14.2mg of taurine, 142 mg of caffeine, 296mg guarana, 220 Calories, 58g of Carbohydrate. You can take up to 2 cans per day.

Overall I’m satisfied with the taste but felt a little weird with the buzz in my head. Not sure exactly why that happened. From the nutritional information on the can, it has the highest concentration of guarana but low taurine. After 2 hours though … I’m feeling tired and not as energized as I have with the other drinks. Also I’m starting to feel burned out. Not sure why. Tastes great but I don’t think it performs as well as I thought it would.

RockStar

Hmm … well I don’t know what to think about this one. Its a bit difficult to describe the taste, its not one I really like either. It ended up fizzing all the way down and made it uncomfortable for me. Too much carbon in my opinion. It also left a weird after taste. Overall I am not impress and I don’t know what much more I can really say about it. Its not something I’m going to have or recommend having. From the other two drinks that I managed to have, this is so far my least favourite. But there are two left to go.

Nutritional value, 2000mg of taurine, 160 mg of caffeine, 50mg guarana, 220 Calories and 58g of Carbohydrates. Like Full Throttle, its recommended to only take 1 can per day.

End of day conclusion: Not my first recommendation. If it was the only drink available to me, then I would consider it. Otherwise look at something else.
